Poverty hurts people. It destroys communities. It steals our joy and robs our future. At CitySquare, we continue to see poverty attacking our city and fight against our vision of equal opportunity and shared prosperity. Yet poverty cannot win as you and I remain committed to the fight. We are part of a movement committed to fighting back against poverty. Together, we fight for justice, for hope, for opportunity.
As we near the end of another year, the battle rages on. The story of Dallas is a tale of two cities. Some zip codes in Dallas tell the story of immense affluence, while others reveal only the devastation of abject poverty. Your donation today heals hurting people, rebuilds communities, and restores hope.
CitySquare is committed to raising $3,000,000 by the end of the year in order to effectively meet the needs and embrace the opportunities facing us all in the fight against poverty. This year more than 43,000 neighbors will access our seventeen programs to address their needs of hunger, health, housing, and hope. In 2018, CitySquare has:
· Distributed a record 1,943,781lbs of healthy food to our community, addressing food insecurity in Dallas.
· Employed a record number of neighbors this year, not only finding work for our neighbors but helping meet the growing need for quality candidates in the construction and hospitality sectors in Dallas.
· Housed a record number of neighbors in need, more than 700, including veterans, seniors, families, and the chronically homeless.
· Expanded services for at-risk youth by opening the Fannie C. Harris Youth Center for homeless DISD youth as part of a collaborative partnership with After8ToEducate.
To reach our fundraising goal and have our most productive year ever in the fight against poverty, we need to finish strong. I need your partnership as a donor and as a friend. We need to dig deep to fund this work. We need to invite others to join our movement. We need to tell our story and introduce others to our amazing neighbors. Some of us will be able to give more this year than last year and some will not, but all of us can invite others to become part of our movement.
Between now and the end of the year I will update you each week as gifts pour in from friends and foundations. I will celebrate with you as new donors and volunteers join us in the fight. And I will share the amazing impact these investments have on our neighbors.
Our work is not done. Our challenges are not small. But, together, we will win this fight. Please consider donating today.
Keep fighting,
Dr. John Siburt,
President & COO, CitySquare
